I was interviewed for a management position and want to send Thank You letters to the selection committee. Is it better to personalize a letter to each of the four (4) people that interviewed me or can I send a group letter? Also, if an individual letter is sent to each committee member, can it be the same letter for all or should each one be different? Thanks for your help!
Hi Mary-
This is such a good question, and a step that many candidates forget to do. The fact that you are even writing a thank you note is a good step towards achieving your career goals. There is an extremely helpful document on the Manpower US website for job seekers that will take you through the process of getting an interview, and the follow up steps required. Here are some of the points stressed about thank you letters:
· Send a thank you letter after you have formally met with a contact in regards to a position
· Send your thank you letter within 24-48 hours
· In professional positions send the letter on resume paper

Good luck with your job search!

Hi Mary,
I would absolutely personalize it. Even though it was a group interview, the people who interviewed you may not work together or may not receive a thank you note that was addressed to all of them.
Send a note to each person and thank them specifically for their time. Also, if there was something that stood out for a particular person (question, info on the job, personal note that you connected on) don't be afraid to include something along those lines.
Be sure to tell them how much you learned, look forward to working with a company/team like theirs, etc.
Show that you are interested.
Good luck!
Hi Mary,
Yes, I would definitely send a thank you note to each of the individuals that took part in your interview. It not only shows your interest level, but your professionalism. It also will stand out to them when making the hiring decision, I am a huge fan of hand written notes rather then an e-mail. It is more personable and sets the stage of the type of person that you are and will be for there organization.
Also, dont be afraid to follow up a week after sending the thank you letters, if you have not heard back from them. I hope this helps!
Good Luck!
Per Jamaica's comment, it's very good to know that it's okay to follow up with the interviewers after sending out your notes! As a recent job-seeker, I was worried about crossing invisible lines or coming across as over-anxious, and figuring out the best steps to take after an interview can seem like navigating a minefield.
It makes sense that the personalized thank-you note - and you - will more readily come to the interviewer's mind if you do have to follow up, rather than trying to jog the memory of someone who's received just another form letter.
Writing personalized, individual thank you notes to each person who interviewed you will definitely be noticed. It can be time consuming -- the more people you met with the more time it takes, but I think it is worth the effort. I once ran into a potential collegue that I had done a group interview with several months before, and he remembered me because not only did I send thank you notes, I sent slightly different notes to each member of the team. It's a good way to make a strong, positive impression.
